Summary

Finds a specified object in the active window.

Description

When you select this command, an input dialog will be displayed showing the name of the currently selected object, and inviting you to overtype it with the name of the object that you wish to find. If you accept the input dialog, AstroGrav will find and select the requested object if it exists, and if necessary scroll the window to make it visible. It is not usually necessary for you to type in the entire name of the object that you wish to find. The first few characters of any word in the name will do, in either upper or lower case, provided that there is only one object whose name matches the typed characters. If AstroGrav cannot find an object whose name matches the typed characters, or if there is more than one object whose name matches the typed characters, an appropriate error message will be displayed.

Example 1

Suppose that you have a simulation of the Solar System containing the Sun and planets. If you try to find an object called "jup", then Jupiter will be found and selected, with the window being scrolled if necessary.

Example 2

Suppose that you have a simulation of the Solar System containing the Sun and planets. If you try to find an object called "j", then Jupiter will be found and selected, with the window being scrolled if necessary.

Example 3

Suppose that you have a simulation of the Solar System containing the Sun and planets and "Comet Halley". If you try to find an object called "hall", then Comet Halley will be found and selected, with the window being scrolled if necessary.

Example 4

Suppose that you have a simulation of the Solar System containing the Sun and planets. If you try to find an object called "a", then an error message will be displayed telling you that there isn't an object whose name matches 'a'.

Example 5

Suppose that you have a simulation of the Solar System containing the Sun and planets. If you try to find an object called "s", then an error message will be displayed telling you that there is more than one object whose name starts with 's' - the Sun and Saturn.
